The Biltmore Mansion : The Biltmore Mansion is the creation of George Vanderbilt and the family architect and is said to be the largest private residence in the United States, weighing in at 175,000 square feet. According to the official Biltmore website (www.biltmore.com), the mansion is now 100 years old, but I couldn't locate an exact construction date. I also read or heard somewhere that it originally is estimated to have cost $18,000 to construct, but then was told that all the construction matters were kept private by Vanderbilt. Regardless of these details, what I can vouch for is that the mansion is a vast, beautiful, overwhelming place. And if photography were allowed inside the mansion, this gallery would easily contain 4 times the number of pictures it does now.
